About this event
Continuing the “Sprout & About” season, SproutSpoken invites you to a very special gathering of community, creativity and connection at one of the town’s favourite places: The Huer’s Hut. Running in conjunction with National Poetry Day, we’ll be honouring this iconic landmark with songs and spoken word that conjure up the spirit of the Huer at this special place.
WANTED! MUSICIANS/SONGWRITERS/POETS/PERFORMERS
We have called the event It’s Your Shout! because we are putting a call-out for musicians, songwriters, poets and performers living in Newquay and offering them the chance to perform at the Hut as part of this special evening.
If you would like to be involved, we are looking for pieces of performance that respond to the theme: TELL THE WORLD WHAT YOU SEE. A little like the Huer of old would shout a message to the boats below, we are encouraging would-be participants to consider what they see from their viewpoint, what’s important to them, what would they like to tell the world if they had the chance…
You might create (or already have created) something around the importance of global inequality or climate change… or perhaps it could be your pride in being Cornish or why Newquay is the best place in the world… however, it is also equally fine (and very much encouraged) if you’ve got something more along the lines of how great your boyfriend/mum/hamster is or the indisputable amazingness of marmite. ANYTHING GOES! As we want the event to be open to all ages, all we ask is that you bear in the mind the audience when considering content. Come share your work from atop the hut or at the entrance!
To register your interest to be part of the performance on the evening, email [email protected]
If you’re a writer but don’t want to share your own work aloud, we can find someone who does.
If you’re a musician who doesn’t write lyrics, we can link you up with a poet.
Get in touch if you’re interested and we’ll see what we can do to make you part of it!
