About this event
Join Artist and Creative Mentor, Belinda Latimer, who will be leading Art workshops workshops in St Austell town on May 31st.
A pop-up studio, in one of the disused shops, will be the base for the workshops and Belinda’s Cornwall Open Studios Event on the 29th and 30th May from 10.30-4.30pm.
These drop-in sessions will enable participants to create prints, inspired by familiar landmarks from the industrial heritage of St Austell and Stoke-on-Trent which will be inspired by the beautiful imagery on Spode pottery.
The blue and white prints will adorn giant tea-cups, saucers and plates that will hang from the ceilings and walls of shops and cafes in St Austell town centre. They will be a talking point – something to ponder and learn from, whilst taking tea (or coffee) in town.
Drawings will be created into blue and white prints using printmaking techniques. Once dried, these will be attached to the cardboard three-dimensional cups, saucers and plates, ready to be hung in their new homes.
The makers’ names and information about the project will be displayed with each piece, helping viewers to see who created which work of art and why.
Will you be able to find the giant piece of paper pottery with your print on it, in one of the shops or cafes in St Austell?
It is really important to show the connection between the two geographical areas – so far apart, but yet so much in common. Acknowledging the journey that the clay goes on from St Austell to Stoke and then sometimes back again, to be washed up on the foreshore of Fowey river and the beaches of St Austell Bay!
.
Originally from Stoke-on-Trent, Belinda was drawn to this area, without knowing about the clay links between these two diverse places. This is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the creativity and cultural heritage of the locations.
Sessions start at 10.30 am and run until 3.30 pm
Suitable for ages 8+ with adult supervision
Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times
This project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund. Cornwall Council has been chosen by Government as a Lead Authority for the fund and is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects funded through the UK Community Renewal Fund in Cornwall.
