About this event
In 2022, Keith Kahn-Harris entertained us with his translations of the safety messages inside Kinder eggs. He’s back on stage again this year with a very different topic: a moving and visionary exploration of Ozzy Osbourne – the Black Sabbath frontman and icon of British heavy metal. Sociologist and writer Keith is something of an expert on this music genre, having based his dissertation at Goldsmiths, University of London on the ethnography of extreme metal music scenes in Israel, Sweden and the UK.
Ozzy died in July 2025, aged 76 – an age that few believed he would ever reach. After years of suffering from Parkinson’s Disease, he gathered together friends and admirers for one last, glorious party and farewell concert at Villa Park, which raised millions for charity. His death came a couple of weeks later, surrounded by his loving family. Thousands of fans lined the streets of Birmingham for his funeral procession. In his book, The Beautiful Death of Ozzy Osbourne, Keith tells how Ozzy, once feared as demonic by some and considered a clown by others, became a much-loved figure beyond the world of heavy metal
