About this event
Kelsey Michael’s crafted songs flow with soul-soothing vocals, acoustic bass, soft drums and rich harmony. Her music captures the essence of life in an elemental place. ‘Classic’ piano singer-songwriting influenced by female writers such as Carole King and Laura Nyro sit alongside folk-drones and pure feel-good pop. In this performance Alice Wonder will contribute harp to this sonic mix on some compositions. Kelsey tells intimate stories of human experience, motherhood, community, the daily rituals of life on the coast, and the transformative power of nature and landscape.
Kelsey performs with her band named Lethowsow – an old Cornish (Kernewek) word for the Seven Stones reef. The trio recently released their first single ‘Music Of The Waves’ on Dimple Discs. The sumptuous music-video for the song shares stunning moments of nature and wildlife from Kelsey’s video journal, the footage shot spontaneously in West Cornwall on her camcorder during clifftop ramblings.
You’ll find Kelsey’s voice on many a High Llamas album. She also features on Jocelyn Pook’s soundtrack for Stanley Kubrick’s ‘Eyes Wide Shut and album ‘Deluge.’
Alice Wonder AKA Harpist by the Sea
When Alice told her mother she would love to play the harp she never expected to be gifted a home-made one for her 15th birthday. Ever since the harp has been by her side and in her heart. Alice taught herself to a high standard of playing.
Practising on the streets, she busked her way through art college at Falmouth, then entertained families at the Nature parenting groups she set up with her children. Now she often entertains at weddings and events as a solo harpist, and with her duo, the Sea Strings (harp and violin) and folk/ceilidh band ‘The Murmurations’. Looking to the future, Alice hopes to write more of her own music based around her connection to the natural world.
