About this event
Kerdroya – The Cornish Landscape Labyrinth and Cornish Hedges, with Will Coleman of Golden Tree Productions
Did you know some Cornish hedges are 4000 years old, or that Cornish hedges are especially good for supporting plants and critters? What has this got to do with a giant labyrinth being built on Bodmin Moor, and what is a labyrinth anyway? This talk and Q&A will give you the chance to learn more about Cornish hedges, labyrinths and the Kerdroya project, and ask questions to Will Coleman, Artistic Director of Golden Tree Productions, and project lead, One and All are welcome so please join us.
The team behind the famous Man Engine are at it again. Golden Tree Productions are creating a giant classical labyrinth – built-in 2021, to last 4000 years. A permanent, living monument to our world-class landscape, located by Colliford Lake on Bodmin Moor in Cornwall. Built of traditional Cornish hedging with a 56m diameter, Kerdroya: The Cornish Landscape Labyrinth is a major new piece of public land art built on a disused carpark site in the middle of Bodmin Moor. Visitors will have a fully immersive experience as they walk a single, meandering path through stretches of artisan stonework celebrating the aesthetics of distinct hedging styles celebrating all 12 sections of the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in their 60th anniversary year. The build is underway with the project’s ‘Outdoor University of Cornish Hedging’, an extensive training programme supported by the Guild of Cornish Hedgers funded by Cornwall Council and National Lottery Heritage Fund passing on the ancient craft of hedging to the next generation. Kerdroya will signify the cultural and geological importance of our Cornish hedges.
