New music & silent film
Kevos, is a group dedicated to performing music by living composers. For this concert, they play a new score by Ed Hughes to the classic film by Sergei Eisenstein.
Battleship Potemkin is often listed in the top 10 greatest films of all time. It documents the uprising by sailors against Officers of the Imperial Russian Navy on the Potemkin in 1905. The film is as influential, as a piece of propaganda art, as it is revolutionary, for the film-making techniques used by Eisenstein.
Ed Hughes’ contemporary score matches Eisenstein’s visual montage with multi-layered music which merges electronic sounds and with militaristic percussion and brass performed by an expanded Kevos line-up.
