KINDRED

An exhibition of vibrant paintings, drawings & monoprints by Charlotte Baynes and Lauren Sebastian.

West Coast Studios in St. Ives is delighted to be welcoming KINDRED – a joint art exhibition of vibrant, colourful paintings, drawings and monoprints by Charlotte Baynes and Lauren Sebastian. These two international artists are indeed kindred spirits in their passion for art and music; and, since 2005, they’ve also been connected as family. Lauren and Charlotte nearly met for the first time through a mutual artistic friend, years ago. However, fate had it that Lauren fell in love with Charlotte’s son, Graham, and they instead met through him. The rest is a rich history of time spent living in Spain and the UK, expressing creativity and making art.

Charlotte and Lauren are inspired by a wealth of subject matter, including Charlotte’s British/Burmese heritage, plus her passion for flamenco music and dance. While, in Lauren’s case, mystical, otherworldly realms and shamanic influences are evident in her paintings and illustrations. More recently, both women have been touched by a new addition to their family after the birth of daughter and granddaughter Stormy (now five years old). Charlotte has twice participated in the televised ‘Sky Portrait Artist of the Year’ competition. On exhibition will be a portrait from that series of the actress: Indira Varma (Game of Thrones, Rome, etc.), along with others, including a powerful portrait of Stormy. Although their painting styles naturally differ, these two artists are committed to exploring colour and emotional expression, making their work very complementary. You will also be able to see some quirky mother/daughter collaborations on the wall by Lauren and Stormy, meaning this is a heartfelt show of three family generations!

KINDRED will run from Mon, 24th until Sat, 29th October 2022 at:
