Exhibition and art workshops hosted by ALMA Artspace & Kitty Hillier at Newquay Community Orchard.
ALMA Artspace presents a new exhibition & collaborative project by artist Kitty Hillier at Newquay Orchard.
During her project, Kitty will lead two creative art workshops. All senses will be activated to experience and capture the moment, sparking curiosity in what is unseen and inaudible on-site at Newquay Orchard. All are welcome, no art experience is necessary.
Workshop 1 : 4 November, 10am – 1pm : Exploring colour
Using simple colour mixing games to capture the changing hues of the Orchard, as well as noticing the colour combinations we are personally drawn to as the seasons shift. Playing with colour to see how the illusion of depth and movement can be created in our studies. At the end of session 1, we will add our favourite colours to a large-scale collaborative painting and celebrate all the different colours we’ve created and how wonderful they look together.
Workshop 2 : 11 November, 10am – 1pm : Slow looking & experimental drawing
Walking, slow looking, experimental drawing and mark-making to document shapes of seed heads, grasses, ourselves in the landscape, and other details we notice in the moment. Distilling, abstracting, and reducing things to their simplest forms alongside exploring movement and expression with ink, allowing space for chance. At the end of session 2, we will layer our favourite inky marks and abstract shapes on to the large-scale collaborative painting, and celebrate all the different marks we’ve created and how wonderful they look together.
The exhibition and collaborative project are on view at Canteen at the Orchard from 17 September 2022 until 8 January 2023 – open daily 8:30am – 4pm.
