Craft activities for families with children aged 5yrs plus. Free, drop-in.

For some of our August workshops we will be thinking about think about what we might need to wear in our rapidly changing and shifting climate. In others we are having a go at learning skills which are timeless. As always we will try to use recycled materials as much as possible and all materials will be supplied.

Week 1 – 3rd and 6th August. Paper Fans

Using recycled materials make a simple fan that can help you keep cool . Through history fans have carried all kinds of designs and some have even carried messages so make yours as fabulous as you like.

Week 2 – 10th and 13th. Weave a Bookmark.

Weaving is a skill that is hundreds of years old. Choose to use paper or thread or one of our other materials to make a simple bookmark that is unique to you using the colours that you love. You can then use your bookmark to help you keep your place when you are reading to give it as gift to the bookworm in your life.

Week 3 – 17th and 20th August. Design a costume or outfit for a figure of your choice.

Maybe our current exhibition will be the inspiration for your design or allow your imagination to flow free. Will you design something you or someone in your family would like to wear ? Or maybe you will choose someone from history and design for them or even a being from another world? The choice is yours.

Week 4 – 24th and 27th August. Hats with a nautical twist.

We all know that one of the best ways to keep cool is to wear a hat. We thought we would have a go at making some fun hats with a style based on the bicorn hats we have in our collection. Will yours be fit for a captain to wear or would you wear it at a garden party or a day out at the beach?

Please note, places are limited so it is first come, first served, all children must be accompanied by an adult.
