About this event
Ever wondered how we look after the collections here at Kresen Kernow? Join us in January for some extra behind-the-scenes tours, featuring the John James Morris diaries that were recently added to our collections.
Born on 10 April 1894, John lived at Cadwin in Lanivet near Bodmin. He helped out on his parent’s farm and when he got married to Florrie in 1925, they moved nearby to farm various crops – mostly fruit, vegetables and flowers.
Over 60 years John wrote in his diary most days, detailing local life and activities. He kept newspaper cuttings and tickets, and added his own drawings. This insight into life through both World Wars and much of the 20th century, might have been lost, but they were saved from an outhouse by a boy and his mother over 10 years ago.
Working with local residents and volunteers, and with support from fundraising and grants, they raised enough money for these diaries to be conserved. They are now safely housed here at Kresen Kernow, and this is a great opportunity to see some of them up close, as well as see our strongrooms, which are not usually open to the public.
Tours are strictly limited and are on Wednesday 24 January at 10am and 12pm, and on Saturday 27 January at 10am, 12pm and 2pm.
