New treatments for a range of classic songs.

’Land of Contrasts’ is a musical tour through a varied songbook that entertains and challenges expectations.

Singer Renee Harries has a voice that effortlessly covers a range of material and styles from Gershwin, Rogers & Hammerstein and Astor Piazolla through to the contemporary sounds of Prince, Pharell Williams and Diana Krall. Pianist Marc Hadley has a background that includes musical direction for Salsa big band “Kabasa”, and the successful 2019 touring production “Riots and Lobsters” presenting the songs by Nick Darke and Jim Carey drawn from Kneehigh Theatre plays.

Together, Renee and Marc bring together decades of performance experience to deliver an evening of varied and contrasting songs that you will have heard before, but not performed in the style you might expect. Their keyboard and vocal act isn’t a “cast-of-thousands” show, but the versatility and depth of their musical backgrounds allow them to cover a range of styles that a larger band would struggle with; and for one evening in a cafe table setting, bring a potion of intimacy, humour, soul, pathos and joy to an Acorn audience.
