About this event
Come along and help us celebrate this great occasion. There will be a party atmosphere, pirate-themed fancy dress (optional), cake, spot prizes and more!
The very first Land’s End parkrun was on 9th November 2019. It was officially launched on 4th January 2020 and started by Cornish sporting legend, Olympic rowing champion, Helen Glover.
It was the first parkrun in the UK to be set up by GPs in a bid to help their patients stay healthy. The idea was the brainchild of local runner and “parkrun hero” Yvonne Turner, who had been trying to get a parkrun established at Land’s End for many years. The GPs from the St Clare Medical Center in Penzance wanted to establish a local event as part of the “parkrun Practice” initiative that their patients and staff could join and so supported Yvonne in her vision.
Since then, there have been over 4,000 finishers at Land’s End. The last person (the tail walker) typically takes an hour or so, with an average finish time around 31 minutes and a course record of under 16 minutes. So, you can see parkrun is all about your own enjoyment. Please come along and take part whatever your pace!
Every week Land’s End parkrun needs a band of volunteers to turn out to ensure the event takes place and approximately 200 individuals have done so to date. The only interruptions have been due to Covid lockdowns or severe storms. A special mention must go to volunteer Tim Twiggs who has only missed one Saturday at Land’s End parkrun and that was to see his beloved Bristol Rovers beat Scunthorpe 7-0 to win promotion in 2022!
Every week we grab a post parkrun refreshment locally – please come and join us.
