An Introduction to letter-cutting with Stephane Rouget

This is suitable for complete beginners and progressing/competent stone carvers.

This is a special 5-day course at our West Cornwall training centre to teach participants how to carve letters and designs into stone, whether you want to carve a sign for your home, use stone creatively or add this skill to your existing stone carving profession/practice.

Carving an attractive lettering or creative design into stone involves an initial design stage and a bit of understanding about font, proportion and material. So, for the first 2-3 days, we will be getting the pencils out and learning how to draw and design for stone. These are transferrable skills you can use as a foundation for a number of design functions. After the initial drawing and design is done, you will spend at least 2 days being taught how to carve this design into stone (with a few options for softer stone, slate or granite).

We will provide stone carving tools, stone and stationary so that you don’t need to bring much with you.

You can take your carved stone pieces away with you.
