Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Fowey is packed with small, independent shops, bistros, cafes and restaurants, nestled amongst its impressive medieval and Georgian architecture.
Located off the west side of the Fowey Estuary, the deep-water harbour is a popular landmark for visitors and locals alike. The area’s maritime history can be explored at the Fowey Museum which holds a fascinating collection of old sailing ship models, as well as archive photographs, costumes and mayoral regalia.
Fowey operates a packed calendar of events all year round. The Fowey Festival of Music and Words (formerly known as The du Maurier Festival) takes place in May and welcomes performances from some of the most renowned acts that the art and literature scene has to offer.
Regatta Week also takes place as part of the Fowey Carnival in August, and includes carnival processions, gig racing, two firework displays and plenty of other family-friendly events. In recent years, Fowey has also seen the introduction of the Fowey River Big Gig and BBQ, a free-entry event featuring daytime family entertainment, live bands and pop-up restaurants serving a range of delicious homemade food.
Lovers of classical music simply must not miss the Fowey Valley Music festival, a relatively new event which has gained a loyal fan following since its inaugural festival held in 2015, and which features performances from world-famous classical music artists.
Take a trip to this picturesque town and experience for yourself everything that this cultural hub in Cornwall has to offer.
