Looe is a charming coastal town and fishing port which centres around a small harbour and is divided in two (East and West Looe) by its eponymous river.
In recent years, Looe has carved a significant niche in the festival world by hosting its very own music event in late September. Held on the beach over three days, this magical event has attracted some huge headliners including Jools Holland, The Darkness, Reef and The Proclaimers, as well as offering local talent a prosperous platform from which to attract new fans.
The annual Festival of the Sea in May provides an opportunity for locals and visitors to celebrate the marine industry with music, rock pooling adventures, sustainable fishing trips and RNLI helicopter displays. And in late July, Looe Carnival provides a week-long calendar of dance performances, competitions, traditional seaside entertainment and a grand procession finale, keeping the streets of Looe busy and spirits high.
Looe also offers an unbeatable way to ring in the new year: every December 31st, hundreds of people flock to the streets in their fancy dress finest to celebrate New Year’s Eve with the help of a magnificent fireworks display at midnight.
And film buffs will be interested to learn that Looe also boasts its own quaint community cinema, Cinema by the Sea, which regularly screens box-office hits as well as showing live opera and theatre performances from venues all over the world.
