It has a distinctive character, defined by the relationship between the rugged beauty of the landscape with its rich mineral, maritime and agricultural heritage. The plen-an-gwary (‘playing place’ in Cornish medieval communities) in St Just is arguably the oldest working theatre in Britain, standing in the heart of the community for over 600 years. The plen-an-gwary is the centre of the annual Lafrowda festival, and home to The Knut live music venue and community space.

Heritage lovers can explore ruined mines, such as The Crown Mine, that create dramatic landscapes, or visit Geevor Tin Mine and find out about recent mining history. In St Just, the Miner’s Chapel programmes live music and theatre in their unique space.
