About this event
Plymouth-based jazz & soul singer Louise Parker, joined by her quartet – Neil Burns (guitar), Jem Fatna (drums), Tom Ball (piano) and Ron Phelan (bass), returns to the Old Chapel.
Louise Parker grew up in a house filled with music from the folk, opera and calypso loved by her Jamaican mother, and the extensive collection of Blue Note and Atlantic jazz and blues records played by her father. She came late to singing, after being encouraged by a friend, and after gaining confidence when she studied performing arts in Plymouth.
Louise has played at Pizza Express, Dean Street, Glastonbury Festival Jazz stage in 2005, and after sending in her album (“No More Strangers” featuring Alan Barnes on tenor sax), which was played by Humphrey Lyttleton on his “Best of Jazz” radio show on Radio Two. He subsequently invited her to play with him and his band at The Bull’s Head Barnes. She was the last singer to record with him at his studio in London – “Cornucopia 3”
