Four years after their first exhibition together, MAC | RAGS Art Collective return to St Ives with new paintings, ceramics, sculpture and printmaking at the Crypt Gallery. United by their love of St Ives, these six artists continue developing distinctive creative practices.
Anna Clarke is a mixed media artist and gut health specialist, reflecting on the mind–body connection. Inspired by coastal landscapes, her fashion background informs her textural collagraph and eco-print works.
Nick Strivens works primarily in oils, creating contemporary abstract landscapes that resist easy categorisation. Whether urban, rural or coastal, his paintings aim to immerse viewers within the landscape itself.
Allison Strivens specialises in sculptural ceramics influenced by coast and ocean. Her current series of vibrant corals exemplifies her passion for creating unusual, abstract forms.
Rosanna Gardner’s paintings explore landscape, sea and, recently, musical themes. Her work pursues economy of expression, distilling experience to its essence. A few carefully placed marks are enough to evoke memory.
Gwynne Penny works across disciplines with biomorphic shapes, exploring internal and external landscapes. Imagination, memory and a strong sense of place permeate her practice.
Andrew Rothwell is a painter and wood carver balancing creative practice with his role as director of Exeter City Football Club. Drawing inspiration from the Devon countryside, he plays with colour and simplified form, capturing nature’s beauty through an unfussy, vibrant style.
Reflections opens Saturday 7 March at 2pm and runs daily 10am-4pm until Friday 13 March 2026. Entry free. The Crypt Gallery is located on Church Place, just off the Wharf in St Ives, beneath the St Ives Society of Artists at the Mariners’ Church.
