About this event
During the taster session workshop, you’ll be able to experiment with letter formation and simple phrases using contemporary calligraphic styles. You’ll also be able to create your own print using letterpress type. All work created will be ready to take home with you and inspire you to continue using your newfound lettering skills for personal projects and presents!
Wild Sea Calligraphy are the author of The Calligraphy Ideas Book and run workshops both online and in-person across the South West. Lyndsey runs a successful Patreon account for sharing her calligraphy ideas and experiments and also offers a range of products and tools to help with your lettering.

The Makers Workshops are a celebration of our heritage building during our theatre’s opening season. Inviting makers working in Cornwall, we are offering the opportunity to join a variety of creative workshops. With a different workshop held each month, Hall for Cornwall offers the opportunity to visit our new space and leave with a new piece of work you’ve created yourself. Exploring the materials present in our Grade II listed theatre and the many uses our building has had, we have programmed workshops which explore everything from the terrazzo flooring to the oak panels in the auditorium.
This month’s workshop takes a look at lettering, typography and signage. Within our historic building, we are lucky enough to have a new Performance Timeline created by world-renowned typographer and graphic artist Alan Kitching in our Green Room Café. Running from 1912 – 2018 our performances have been overlayed and characterised in Alan Kitching’s bold, witty and eye catching style.
Other makers running workshops at Hall for Cornwall include Badger & Birch, Starglazers, Sarah Drew, City of Lights and Wild Rose Cornwall.
MATERIALS workshops are made possible thanks to a generous award from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
All materials provided for the workshop and no prior experience necessary (please note that no calligraphic equipment will be available to take home from this taster session). Workshops are hosted in a friendly, inclusive and accessible location within Hall for Cornwall. Over 18s only.
