About this event
Step into the 19th century and explore Glendurgan Garden through the eyes of Anna Maria Fox, Quaker philanthropist, diarist, artist, cultural pioneer, and a member of the influential Fox family of Falmouth.
Anna Maria herself will be visiting the garden she holds so dear, sharing stories from her remarkable life. As a founder of the Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society at just 17, and an active force in the cultural and artistic development of Cornwall, Anna Maria’s legacy is as inspiring as the garden paths she will walk.
Drawing on stories from the journals of her siblings, Barclay and Caroline, as well as the poetry of Charles Fox of Glendurgan, you will gain a fascinating insight into the lives of the famous Quaker Fox family of Falmouth.
Throughout the day, visitors can engage with Anna Maria as she brings history vividly to life. She will remain fully in character, recounting tales of the Fox family, their values, and their love of nature, education, and innovation. Hear about her passion for the arts, and the deeper story behind Glendurgan’s creation.
This performance is brought to life by Tricia Grace-Norton, a dedicated historical interpreter who specialises in immersive, character-driven storytelling.
