About this event
Come join us to celebrate on this St Pirans weekend Redruth and Camborne’s Link to the mining town of Real Del Monte in Mexico at the Redruth Drapery In collaboration with the Redruth Twinning committee.
Not many know of why we are linked to a Mexican town, mexi-kernow is an exploration through spoken word , song and traditional Cornish music of the epic journey made by 60 Cornish miners in 1825 in a 14 month trek across the Mexican jungle carrying 1500 tons of mining equipment.
We have music, food, dance and tequila. Our band for the night are the fantastic ‘MONEY TO THE MOON’ they are a five-piece band playing acoustic Cornish Celtic music . Their unique combination of two fiddles, mandolin, bouzouki and melodeon creates a multi-textured Cornish traditional repertoire which blends the old and the new, embracing historical processionals and airs as well as contemporary reels, hornpipes and jigs.
This will be interspersed with the story of the great trek by DON LEVON our narrator and storyteller for the evening (see if you can recognise him ?)
Food
Mexican Pasties ( paste ) more pasties are sold in Mexico than Cornwall just part of the legacy . Recreated from a Mexican recipe from none other than Redruth’s DENZIL TREVITHICK
Served with Vegan/Vegetarian Chilli and sides by our own LUC DEL WALLACE
There will also be a fund raising Special Tequila shot bar hosted by the one & only ‘EL COSMICO’ all funds generated will go to the twinning committee to help develop cross cultural links between us and them as well as a fund raising auction with generous gifts donated by prominent town businesses .
So come down and help us kick off this St Pirans weekend celebrations in fine style.
