About this event
Since 2009 I have been making fine hand-crafted classical guitars from my workshop in the center of Falmouth. I Have focused on making guitars based on designs by Herman Hauser. More recently I have made romantic-style guitars based on 19th-century instruments by Rene Lacote. I have also made a handful of ukuleles, which I have enjoyed being a little more experimental with. For example, trying out alternative, less traditional, materials.
In all my instruments I use the highest quality materials that I am able to obtain. I usually use a traditional combination of woods that include Indian rosewood for the back and sides, European spruce for the soundboard, cedar or mahogany for the neck and head, and ebony for the fretboard. I use this combination as it gives me consistently reliable results. However, I am increasingly aware of the necessity to use more sustainable materials and I am keen to use alternative tonewoods when possible.
My instruments are made individually using traditional hand tools and techniques. They are made with precision, care, and attention to detail. I will have a small collection of instruments on display, which you are invited to try. My workshop will also be open so you can see how they are made. I am happy to work with customers to build a guitar to suit your needs.
