About this event
Miranda started singing at a very young age, just 13 months old. At the time, she could sing the Teletubbies theme tune from start to finish!
As Miranda’s vocals developed, her mum decided to purchase a guitar for her to practice playing. She found one for just £30 in T K Maxx in their ‘reduced’ pile, a bargain!
However, Miranda’s music career almost didn’t happen as at the age of 14, her guitar was gathering dust in her bedroom. As a result, her dad was almost going to take it to a charity shop! So, Miranda started learning how to play the guitar to potentially impress a boy she had a crush on at the time. Sadly, it didn’t work, however, not all was lost as she is now fast becoming a household name on the Cornish live music scene.
In August 2019, Miranda won the Hellys International Guitar Festival’s ‘H Factor’ competition hosted by Ben Salfield, a world-renowned musician himself who organises the annual festival in Helston, Cornwall which brings together a multitude of classical musicians from around the globe.
Miranda’s prize was a beautiful hand-crafted wood guitar made by local craftsman and guitar maker Kif Wood who kindly donated the new guitar purely for the competition. The guitar is absolutely unique with its desirable ‘wild animal’ pattern around the waist of the instrument.
Miranda absolutely loves her animal print guitar, it’s her pride and joy. She can be seen regularly performing with her guitar at many venues and festivals across Cornwall including Tunes In The Dunes, Boardmasters and Little Orchard Cider and Music Festival.
Miranda has also performed at the Salcombe Festival in Devon which was her favourite and hopes to travel further afield in the near future.
In June 2020, just before the return of live music, Miranda also won Old Bakery Studios’ Live Lounge Young Musician online competition for her original song ‘Too Good To Be True’.
And if that’s not enough, she also won ‘Battle of the Buskers’ in December 2021 at Walkabout in Newquay. Miranda was the final act to perform (well after midnight!) though her performance was absolutely outstanding and was highly praised by some of the other musicians there including the organiser, Adam Parfitt.
What’s most noticeable about Miranda is her incredible vocal power, for example, she regularly performs ‘Songbird’ by the late Eva Cassidy. She once performed this at an open mic session near St Austell, the audience was absolutely mesmerised by Miranda’s voice! Not something you get in every pub.
Miranda also spent 3 years at Truro College studying music and theatre where she met many characters who still claim to inspire her songwriting to this day.
Miranda’s celebrity musical inspirations include national female artists like Anne-Marie as “every time she sings something, it’s with such, such emotion, all the little sounds she puts in her voice, you can tell she really means what she’s saying” (OBTV, March 2021) and Lily Allen because of her bold character and confidence.
