About this event
Through storytelling, humour, movement and song, Family Tree challenges our perceptions on migration, belonging and diasporic identities through the intimate stories of the brown, black and white people jostling for space within one family. Misri’s exclusive new material, shared for the first time with a live audience, encourages you to reflect on the experiences of multiple heritage communities and how the borders, privilege, and family histories we are all navigating shape who we are.
Expect song, family secrets, lies and a horse. This scratch show forms part of a devising phase where Misri is testing new ideas with live audiences. Audience members will have the opportunity to feedback their thoughts on the performance in a facilitated post-show discussion. Audience feedback will inform the development of the full show, to be toured around the South West later in 2022.
Misri Dey is a trained international theatre practitioner, now working as a Senior Lecturer in Theatre and Acting at Falmouth University, who has performed professionally in the UK, USA, and Europe. Since 2003, she has been creating solo work that explores diasporic identities for live theatre and radio. Arts participation and activism is also an important element to Misri’s work; she has worked with many youth and community organisations to broaden audiences of live performance and advocate for the importance of arts participation.
