About this event
Following our highly successful all-Monteverdi concert of 3 years ago the cast and players decided that they would like to perform his ‘Orfeo’ of 1607 – often regarded as the first true opera in history. With leading tenor Dan Gilchrist in the title role the rest of the cast are all professional singers from Cornwall. It is a dazzling display of Monteverdi’s genius in his ability to express the full range of human emotions. There are dances, choruses, laments and celebrations, colourful instrumentation and stunningly virtuoso singing – the part of Orfeo, particularly, being regarded as one of the pinnacles of the operatic repertoire. You won’t be bored but you might want to bring a hankie or two!
Seats are unnumbered but places near the stage can be reserved through the email on the poster.
