New Year, New Novel

An 8-week novel writing workshop to kickstart your creative goals in 2025. Led by a published author

Is it your new year’s resolution to finally write that novel you’ve been thinking about? Maybe you’ve never thought about it before but you want to introduce more creativity into your life in 2025. Or you might already be a regular writer hoping to find a little more structure and community. Whatever your experience so far, New Year New Novel is the perfect workshop for writers seeking inspiration and encouragement.

Led by published author Nicola Masters, this 8-week workshop in Hayle is the next step on your journey to a finished novel!

WHAT WILL WE LOOK AT?

Our weekly workshops will focus on:

WEEK 1 – Ideas and inspiration
WEEK 2 – Planning and structure
WEEK 3 – Setting and sense of place
WEEK 4 – Character and voice
WEEK 5 – Dialogue
WEEK 6 – Messy middles and endings
WEEK 7 – Editing
WEEK 8 – Finding a literary agent and working with publishers

Each session will run from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, but you are very welcome to arrive from 6pm and/or stay for a while after the session to indulge in some quiet writing time.

Everybody will have the opportunity to get feedback from the group on their work, and will also be expected to do a small amount of reading outside the structured sessions so that they are ready to give feedback on the work of others too.

WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR?

Anyone! Whether you’ve never tried to write a novel before or whether you have tons of drafts gathering virtual dust on your hard drive, this workshop is for you.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

Just yourself, and a pen and paper or laptop – whatever you like to write on.

Nicola is the author of two published novels. *Happy Happy Happy* was published in 2022, with *Ready For It* following in 2023. She is currently working on her third. In addition to novels she is an award-winning theatre writer, a journalist, and her work has also been heard on BBC Radio 4 Extra.
