I have been a practising artist since 2012 and am based in Cornwall with a studio at Trewidden Gardens, Penzance. I am a painter and work in acrylics, watercolour inks : my subject matter crosses between the figurative and the landscape. The ideas behind my work are informed by travel whether that be imaginatively or in reality! Post Lockdown and I have returned to a narrative of images from my daily observation on walks, news stories and old photos of family.

Having been somewhat restricted over the past couple of years and unable to travel, my imagination seemed to shut down as well ….. I have spoken to many artists who suffered from similar condition ….. the work produced in that time of Covid was restricted and confined to flowers, birds, nests painted in watercolour inks on card… perhaps an analogy for being at home, having our wings clipped by Lockdown rules but intrinsically optmistic. Having returned to the studio this year it is wonderful to get the paints out and work on canvas, watch shapes of colour, texture evolve and letting these abstract shapes start a narrative. I am also starting to use a sketch book to plan and work out ideas but the majority of these stories are created directly on the canvas, additions scrubbed out, layering of veils of colour, characters and places, like thin pages of a book…. eventually the end is there and the story told.
