No Holds Barred The Life & Art of Matthew Lanyon

The recently-released award-winning documentary ‘No Holds Barred – The Life & Art of Matthew Lanyon’ will be shown twice at this year’s St Ives September Festival.
Made in St Ives by film-maker and producer Barbara Santi and Matthew’s widow Judith Lanyon, it will be followed by a Q&A session.
‘No Holds Barred’ will be screened at St Ives Arts Club on Monday, September 13, and Monday, September 20.
Earlier this year It won Best Documentary in the New Renaissance Film Festival in Amsterdam.
It has also been selected for the Fine Arts Film Festival in Venice, California, Beyond the Curve Film Festival and the Celtic Media Festival 2021, which is being held online in September this year because of the ongoing restrictions affecting international travel to the original venue of Quimper in France.
No Holds Barred reaches into the remarkable world of Matthew Lanyon, whose reclusive, comedic disposition disguised a fierce dedication to art, powered by love and loss.
He was the second son of Peter Lanyon, the well-known, ground breaking modernist painter who died tragically when Matthew was 13.
Matthew’s family, collectors and collaborators describe a man with a visionary talent and intellect, for whom the usual boundaries between art and life did not apply.
This moving film creates a rare magic from Matthew’s own words, his previously unseen audio-visual archive, and the breathtaking geology of West Cornwall.
