Inspirational and intimate festival draws writers from across the country, offering something for every age and taste.
Come and meet a host of literary stars including: ANNE ENRIGHT, JILL MURPHY, PATRICK GALE, PHILIP HOARE, JOANNA TROLLOPE, NINA STIBBE & NATALIE HAYNES
Feed your brain AND your heart! Our long weekend of workshops, talks, performances and exhibitions offers wordy treats for every taste and age, as well as musical and visual delights.
If fiction is your dish, we offer Anne Enright on mothers, Nina Stibbe and Patrick Gale on adolescence, Fiona Mozley and Wyl Menmuir on the dark side of the English idyll and Joanna Trollope and Cathy Rentzenbrink on the challenges of a love life in maturity. For poetry lovers Andrew McMillan and Kate Clanchy read their fearlessly frank takes on sex, childbirth, love and loss. If non-fiction is for you we have Aida Edemariam tracking her Ethiopian grandmother, Laurence Rose tracing the global passage of spring and Philip Hoare, Neil Ansell and Horatio Clare respectively braving treacherous tides, deafness and Arctic oceans. There are weekend offerings for children, too, in bestselling Jill The Worst Witch Murphy and Martin Horrible Histories Brown. There will be workshops on poetry, fiction and writing and about the natural world and bookbinding. We even have hilarious high-brow stand-up from Radio 4’s resident classicist, Natalie Haynes.
To round off your festival day, our after-dark performances include Liberated Words – an evening of haunting poetry films; outrageously witty cabaret from Kit and McConnell and toe-tapping folk rock from The India Electric Company.
Exhibitions, bookshop, café selling delicious home-made light meals and snacks, and bar all available throughout the weekend.
