Evelyn Wang (Michelle Yeoh) is a first-generation Chinese-American woman, struggling to keep up with her family alongside the demands of her and her husband’s failing laundromat business. While attempting to file her taxes, she’s interrupted by a ‘multiverse’ traveller who tells her she must connect with countless parallel universe versions of herself – an unlikely hero must channel her newfound powers to fight bizarre and bewildering dangers from the multiverse as the fate of the world hangs in the balance.
