About this event
Visitors will experience a relaxed atmosphere in a large, bright and airy sea view studio. Browse through miniature or larger pastels, mounted or framed, and new card designs.
Simple refreshments will be provided throughout the day to give you a chance to stop a while if you wish. Enjoy the sea view indoors, the colours of the plant pots on the patio or take an easy chair in the studio to view the pictures comfortably.
I discovered pastels more than 20 years ago and have worked with them almost exclusively ever since. They have enabled me to created seascapes in which the colour of light is key. Whether in sky, sea, or people, my search is always for the light carried by the atmosphere in front of me. Light of the visible world intersecting with light from the invisible around us. Colour is both very tangible a tool to describe the visible as well as ideal to describe the spiritual or psychological vibe of a scene. Whether used in mixed media or not, as broken colour or not, I am always fascinated by the effects I can obtain from the humble pastel sticks I hold in my hand.
Pastel is not frequently used in its own right. Enjoy meeting the artist to discover more about this fascinating medium and the picture currently on the easel.
As a dry medium, pastel is suitable for outdoor painting or sketching. It can be used as both a drawing and as a painting medium. It is a joy to work with the pastels themselves and explore all their possibilities as one discovers more and more ways of working with them. The workshops are an opportunity to experiment with the medium in its different forms, its various supports and its use in mixed media. Its rich colours and textures are exciting. Beginners will find it is very encouraging and forgiving to use. Artists of all abilities and students are welcome. Contact me for more information about the workshops.
