About this event
This June, Whitewater Contemporary Polzeath presents a Featured Artist collection of work by British painter Peter Turnbull. Peter’s new collection is inspired by his creative engagement with Cornwall’s North Coast, but rather than describing specific places, his paintings seek to suggest a sense of place by capturing the essential qualities of the Cornish landscape. Combining direct observation with visual memory and elements such as shifting tides, changing light, and the textures of land and sky, he makes works that celebrate the dynamic environment of the coast and elevate our understanding of the sensory experience of ‘place’.
Peter Turnbull studied at Nottingham College of Art and the Royal College of Art in both London and Paris. He has received the Rodney Burn Award for figurative Drawing, was Head of Fine Art at the University of Chester, and later became Visiting Professor of Fine Art. Now a full-time painter, he makes works which draw on the traditional subjects and techniques of historic and contemporary British landscape painting. Peter exhibits in the UK, Europe and USA, and his paintings are held in both private and public collections.
