About this event
Join the Pobel a Gernow (“People of Cornwall”) initiative at Liskeard Public Hall for a specialist talk on Albert de Castro Glubb, a solicitor who was instrumental in rescuing and protecting a number of historic sites and ancient monuments in the 1930s.
This May, Pobel a Gernow is recognising the huge impact Albert de Castro Glubb had on Cornish history by installing a plaque on the house where he was born and lived for 82 years until his death. He is the first person to be recognised by the initiative, which is a partnership between Cornwall Heritage Trust, Gorsedh Kernow and Federation of Old Cornwall Societies.
The plaque will be unveiled on Friday 9th May at a small, private ceremony, which will be followed by this public talk exploring de Castro Glubb’s life and passion for Cornish heritage and the history of some of the monuments he helped save.
This will take place from 3 – 4.45pm at Liskeard Public Hall and will be given by Brian Oldham, President of Liskeard Old Cornwall Society, and Pete Herring, a Landscape Archaeologist and Historian.
The talk is open to all, and tickets are priced pay as you feel at £1, £5 and £10. All proceeds and donations will go towards the Pobel a Gernow scheme.
Tea, coffee and saffron buns will be served.
