Pottery Weekend for Young People

2 Day pottery workshop for ages 11-16 year, explore throwing on a wheel and hand-building.

This Leach Pottery Workshop is taking place at Newlyn School of Art.

2 Day pottery workshop for 11-16 year olds. (can accept a sibling of 10 years)

Across this weekend explore throwing on a wheel and hand-building techniques.

The group will be made up of 12 participants who will be divided into smaller groups of 6 and rotate between throwing and hand-building workshops. The course is led by 2 tutors.

On the wheels participants will encounter:
• Centring clay
• Making cylinders
• Making bowls
• Turning finished pieces

In hand-building participants will encounter:
• Preparing clay
• Slab building
• Pinch Pots
• Textured Surface Decoration
• Slip Decoration

At 2.30pm on Sunday 8 December the doors of the studio will be open to the friends and families of participants for an informal viewing of the works they have made across the weekend.

The workshops will take place in Newlyn at Newlyn School of Art.

Equipment & materials: clay and a basic tool kit is provided. Please bring additional tools if you wish to use them along with an apron and hand towel. Please bring a packed lunch
You will leave with: (once fired) 2 hand-built and 1 thrown piece that will be fired in our electric kiln & ready for collection or * posting approximately 10 weeks post course.
