About this event
Queen Gwendolen’s Spell is a brand new Penzance-based group set up by resident violinist Jackie Shave. Their first concert in Penzance’s vibrant Acorn Theatre will take you on a worldwide journey of nature and folk-inspired String and flute music from Germany, France, Syria, South Africa, America, Denmark, and Scotland, as well as some of their own compositions from albums Freedom to Roam and Postcards from home. Jackie and her sister Kathy on violin are joined by violist Kate Musker and cellist Joely Koos, with Eliza Marshall from Ranagri (folk band) and the Lion King in London, on flutes of many kinds.
Jackie was the leader of the Brindisi string quartet for fifteen years and was the leader and director of Britten Sinfonia, resident at the Barbican in London for the last fifteen years, giving many concerts and making recordings. She has played on many albums and toured with Peter Gabriel and Jamie Cullum. She was involved in the session scene in London for many years playing on numerous pop recordings with Jamiroquai, Robbie Williams, and Joni Mitchell, to name a few. Jackie has been writing her own music for ten years or so now ….most recently for the album with Eliza Marshall, Freedom to Roam the Rhythms of Migration….a project which celebrates the possibilities, the opportunities, and the desire for hope and compassion on this, our beautiful planet earth.
Do come along if you can to be taken on a mysterious journey with this cosy coven of musicians who hope to cast a unique spell in the magical space of the Acorn Theatre.
