About this event
I use mixed media & textiles to create wire framed textural art. Each individual artwork is fragmented into smaller framed elements, which together represent a scene, a place or an aspect of nature, inspired by my walks in and along the Cornish coast and countryside. I take photos and sketch any textures, colours and wildlife as I go.
I love to use a wide variety of techniques such as, stitched collage, wire work, metalwork, cyanotype, gelli printing, lino & screen printing, free machine embroidery including dissolvable fabric, hand embroidery, slashing, burning holes and melting fabrics to create the texture and colour representing nature. The use of recycled elements often leads to surprising results. I also create artwork, fabric journals, jewellery and homeware which all derive from my wire framed work.
The jewellery is 925 sterling silver, fine silver, precious metal clay, brass & copper & I enamel some of these pieces. I also use beautiful sea glass & pottery that I collect on Cornish beaches. My designs include every day wear with simple, clean lines, to more complex, speciality pieces.
My fabric journals are mostly textile patched and colour themed and include 1 or 2 signatures, with a tie wrap. Examples of the fabrics used include recycled fabrics, images of my nature photography printed onto fabric, collage pieces, recycled silk saris and printed designs. The signatures can include mixed media paper, vintage pages, recycled book pages, collage/watercolour/watercolour floral and cartridge paper. There are also some with plain sketch paper.
I also sell homewares such as cushions, toiletry bags and coin purses. I use cyanotype printing, free motion embroidery, hand stitching, abstract designs and applique to create them. I also have a selection of cards with images from my work.
I would love to see you over the 9 days, you will be able to see some of my work in progress too, as I’ll be stitching and creating every day. I hope you’ll enjoy seeing my work.
