About this event
“Language is wine upon the lips.” Virginia Woolf
We couldn’t agree more. Which is why we bring the best of both together in an event that sups from the cup of contemporary literature and interrogates the character of modern wines.
Read Between the Wines is a book group with a difference. Simultaneously celebrating the art of wordsmithery and the beauty of wine craft, we pair our book group read with a selection of three choice wines and open the floor to taste, discover and discuss.
Amiable and accessible rather than challenging and erudite, it’s a lighthearted, interactive and lively night, where everyone’s opinions and tastes are welcome.
Hosted by the wonderful Espressini in Falmouth, expect a laid back, inviting atmosphere and an evening full of flavour.
You’ll get a copy of the story to read beforehand as well as a performance of the story on the night itself. We’ll then draw on the insights and expertise of our resident wine expert who’ll walk us through a tailored tasting, highlighting each wine’s flavour notes, synergies and connections with the story.
Our chosen short story for the 7 December is ‘Enter the Garden’ by Leila Aboleula, featured in the wonderful The Poet & the Echo collection, from Scratch Books. It’s a subtle, masterfully-crafted coming of age tale of liminal worlds, conflict and perception. A real beauty of a story, ‘Enter the Garden’ will make for rich reading, tasting and discussion.
Tickets are £15 and include three delicious wines, a guided tasting, a tasting card for story and drinks and the famous Read Between the Wines pencil of course.
So come, join us. The wine (and written word) is waiting…
