Refugee Community Day

Bringing people together through creativity, storytelling, food, art, music, and conversation.

Throughout the afternoon, families, children, artists, creatives, and community members are invited to take part in a range of creative workshops, activities, and cultural experiences designed to encourage reflection, connection, and joy.

Weaving Workshop
A gentle introduction to weaving creativity, exploring connection, storytelling, and courage through making together.

Zine-making workshop
Zines – a collection of zines provided with information about refugees, refugee day. There will also be opportunity for people to make their own versions of zines in a mini workshop.

“Our Community Poem”
A collaborative poem created from participants’ reflections and prompts throughout the day, which will be read out at the end.

“Tell Their Story”
Writing imagined stories inspired by photographs and portraits displayed around the space. This can be compiled and shared on social media/website.

“The Party Quirks Game”
An interactive theatre/improvisation game inspired by characters and storytelling.

Children’s Animal Collage Workshop
Create expressive animal collages inspired by emotion, personality, courage, and imagination.

Still Life Drawing
Participants will be guided through still-life drawing inspired by themes of courage, memory, home, and resilience.

Dabke Mini Workshop
Join us for an energetic introduction to Dabke, a traditional Levantine folk dance rooted in community, celebration, resistance, and joy. No experience needed; come move, connect, and experience the power of dancing together.

Community Stalls & Activities
Homemade Middle Eastern food and treats
Handmade gifts and Mexican food
Ukrainian goods and crafts
Affinity Skateboarding – Decorate mini skateboards or try beginner-friendly skateboarding skills

Cultural Games & Community Activities
Throughout the afternoon, there will also be cultural games to enjoy together, celebrating connection, creativity, and community across cultures.
