About this event
Our Studio on the High Street will be a space to welcome in young artists from across Launceston. We will also visit the local schools to undertake work in the classroom.
We will then make an exhibition of their work in the Town Hall on the 12th and 13th July.
The young artists will work with words, block printing and symbols, portrait painting, and printing on a large scale across their school.
About the Artist
I am a part-time teacher who spends a significant amount of time drawing, painting and printmaking. I exhibit and sell my work in Cornwall. In the past, I have exhibited and sold in the U.K. and the U.A.E.
My current creative practice is somewhat eclectic; I draw, paint and make prints. I am interested in the sense of a place and the connections that people have to it. Through my interest in climbing, I have encountered people, places and stories that have shaped my work.
My less commercial work explores the space between life and death and relationships between people and ideas – loss, longing, melancholy, trickery and hope. I am particularly interested in adding to and exploiting my knowledge of local legends (many of which relate to my experiences on Fowey Moor or the North coast) and focusing on the re-interpretation of these stories or allegories.
This project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund. Cornwall Council has been chosen by Government as a Lead Authority for the fund and is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects funded through the UK Community Renewal Fund in Cornwall.
