About this event
This concerto concert celebrates the legacy of the many players who have, over the last fifty years, made music on the Roseland.
Programme:
Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 5
Ian Stephens “Carricknath” Concerto for Clarinet
Bach Brandenburg Concerto no 2
This concert sees the Roseland premiere of a new composition for clarinet and small orchestra by a local composer, Ian Stephens, commissioned in memory of three Roseland women active in Cornish music in 20th century. The concerto’s title “Carricknath” is named after the peninsula opposite St Mawes.
The performance of the 2 great Bach concertos gives an opportunity to compare the sound and style of an original and a modern instruments performance. Mandy Burvill as soloist will be joined by the Nova Quartet augmented with bass, flute and bassoon.
The Nova Quartet are performers drawn from the NOVA Festival which was set up in 2021 by Joseph Barker as a way of giving back to the town that raised him, championing young Cornish talent and contributing to the cultural landscape of St Austell.
Soloist : Mandy Burvill (clarinet)
Ensemble: Maggie Cole (harpsichord), Alison Bury (baroque violin), Rachel Bartlett (baroque flute), Philip Montgomerey-Smith (violin), Tamsin Robinson (oboe), Karen Green (flute), Joe Sharp (trumpet)
