About this event
Sally’s work is mainly hand built and sculptural. She uses a range of clays, enjoying the contrast between very ‘earthy’ raku fired/smoke fired stoneware and finer porcelain clays. She enjoys making marks and colours with fire and smoke and is fascinated by the alchemy of the raku firing process, particularly the direct contact with the work during its transformation.
She often incorporates other materials and found objects to create mixed-media pieces.
Currently her work is exploring the theme of resilience in human nature: the strength alongside the fragility of us all. There is such beauty in that fragile strength, and in the layers that build us as people. The nurture found in nature is also a theme which runs through all of her pieces.
There will be a variety of Sally’s ceramic & mixed media pieces to see at the studio, alongside paintings, glass and textiles by Sarah Trewhella and Clare Athene James, fellow Falmouth graduates.
Mudgeon Vean Studio is situated on an 18C farm in the heart of the country, near the beautiful Helford River and National Trust walk to Tremayne Quay – a stone’s throw from Gear Farm Pasty Co.
