The year is 1939 and storm clouds are gathering over Europe. Colonel Craddock is now the proud owner of Bagshot House, converted to a country hotel, but his idyll is shattered by the arrival of Inspector Pratt bearing grim news. But are the guests who they seem?
Who is the strange Polish Count? Is the ATS officer Henrietta really that dim? Why is Lady Isadora needing Pratt to keep an eye on her nooks and crannies? And how come the flamboyant actor Cardew Longfellow is the spitting image of the Colonel?
