About this event
The Kimono is an ancient Japanese form of dress dating back centuries which embodies the traditional culture and a sense of beauty. The kimono becoming one with the body.
Here’s your chance to be eco-friendly without having a negative impact on the environment by sewing your own Zero Waste Kimono-style robe. A creative way to show off your design skills without the use of a physical pattern By strategic placement of the cloth you can make alter the length and shape of the body of rectangles, add sleeves and the trims left over can become the neckband, pockets, belt and loops.
Once we’ve guided you through the fabric placement you’ll cutting out and finally construction of your very own beautiful Zero Waste Kimono style robe. Our technical focus will be on using a straight stitch and overlocker to finish the seams and finally pressing which is important in garment making.
Through breaking down the process of garment construction we build confidence in our abilities to make pyjamas lounge bottoms for all occasions.
This is an interesting class because it makes us think about how to use the cloth to the best of our advantage. It’s a great skill and makes perfect birthday presents for the whole family.
