About this event
You are invited to an engaging talk with storyteller Catherine Wright (visiting from Newfoundland, Canada), who will share research and inspiration for her show Shrouds and Stays: The Ballad of Jane Wright, an ancestral tale of shipwreck, family and continuum. The illustrated talk will take you behind the scenes and include related songs and stories from folk traditions.
On March 10th 1891 the Bay of Panama was wrecked on the Coast of Cornwall during the Great Blizzard of the West; a valiant rescue ensued. Catherine’s great-great grandfather David Wright was captain of the ship, his wife Jane the only woman aboard.
Catherine Wright is a storyteller, multi-arts practitioner and arts educator who divides her time between St John’s and Port Kirwan, Newfoundland. Catherine is past president of St John’s Storytelling and current provincial representative for Storytellers of Canada (SC-CC).
