About this event
Falmouth Theatre Company proudly celebrates its 100-year anniversary with a heartwarming production of The Sound of Music. Marking a century of creativity, collaboration, and theatrical excellence, this special production brings together performers of all ages to honour both a beloved musical and the rich heritage of theatre in Falmouth.
The Sound of Music tells the story of Maria, a free-spirited young woman studying to become a nun in Austria. Struggling to adapt to convent life, she is sent to work as a governess for the seven children of Captain von Trapp, a strict widower who runs his household like a naval ship. Through music, kindness, and patience, Maria brings joy and warmth back into the family’s lives, eventually winning the Captain’s heart. As their bond grows, the backdrop of Nazi Germany’s rise casts a shadow over their happiness. Faced with pressure to support the regime, the von Trapp family must make a courageous decision to stay true to their values. Ultimately, they choose freedom, escaping Austria together and relying on their love and unity to guide them into an uncertain future.
Returning for their annual performance at Princess Pavilion, Falmouth Theatre Company (FTC) always delivers high-energy, bold storytelling designed to inspire and entertain. By providing opportunities on stage and behind the scenes, FTC remains dedicated to nurturing local talent and fostering an inclusive arts community.
