Summer Festival of Arts and Events in St Columb.
There is lots to do and plenty of family fun in the St Columb Major Arts and Heritage Festival 13 – 24 August!
Throughout the Festival wander around our historic streets and spot the Mouse symbols which show you houses and sites of special historic interest. If you want to look at buildings in more detail, then the Photoquiz is for you.
In both weeks of the Festival there are opportunities to see and acquire artwork: – in the first week come and see the Fair and Square Canvas Show at the Columba Centre. (50 artists, young and old, aspiring and professional were invited to paint a 10” canvas), buy a £10 Draw ticket and walk off with one of your top 20 favourites in an exciting draw.
Do your little ones enjoy drawing? Then the workshop on a Cornish theme for 3-6 year olds with Mrs Glanville, Bard of the Cornish Gorseddh will be their thing.
Come and join us at the Vintage Teaparty! Grownups can sip tea while the younger ones are kept busy with Face-painting and other delights.
We have a great concert lined up for you with up and coming folk group The Grenaways, supported by Acapella group, the Coastal Belles. As part of the concert, a group of young people led by musician/composer Giles Woolley will be performing their original Scratchband composition, created that very afternoon.
In the second week of the Festival we have the Art and Heritage Exhibition at the Town Hall – learn what is special about this town, with its traditions of the Hurling and Cornish Wrestling, see the display about our planned book about St Columb Major, illustrated with archive photographs, and view more paintings, on the subject of Town and Country which will be auctioned on the last evening of the festival.
For further details of events, come and pick up a Festival Booklet (available during the Festival) or check out our Facebook page: Our Town St Columb Major community arts and heritage.
