About this event
This St Piran’s Day, cinemas across Cornwall are inviting audiences to come together in celebration of Cornish culture, community and creativity with special screenings of The Lost Boys of Carbis Bay.
Shot over two years beneath the rugged Cornish coastline, The Lost Boys of Carbis Bay follows a tight-knit group of underground explorers called The Carbis Bay Crew.
In the spirit of St Piran — the patron saint of tin miners — the film feels especially poignant.
Director Dan Simpkins and Editor Angus Breton say:
“Releasing it around St Piran’s Day feels incredibly meaningful, because it honours the mining heritage that shaped this county and the connections that still sustain it today.”
Cornish BAFTA award-winning director Mark Jenkin, who praised the film following a recent screening:
“Funny, poignant and totally exhilarating – beautiful filmmaking, fascinating story.”
Audience reactions have been equally enthusiastic, with film fans sharing heartfelt responses:
“A beautiful homage to how the land around us, combined with community provides solace and support for mental health, in a time when life moves so fast.” Kellymc97 – Letterboxd.
“A genuinely inspiring film.” Coco – Letterboxd.
“We loved it. We need more of these kinds of showings. Support your local indie cinemas.” Alan Jones – Letterboxd.
“A great promotion of local life in Cornwall.” Maisiepicko – Letterboxd.
