About this event
This workshop with sculptor and stonemason, Stéphane Rouget, aims to teach participants how to texture granite according to its surroundings, composition and functions. The workshop is taught 1:4 over two days and participants will take home their granite creations.
The workshop includes:
– Experimenting with various textures and different tools.
– Learning why we use certain textures for different purposes and introducing a few granite stone masonry features (quoins, lintels, steps, etc.)
– Creating some ‘very rough’, ‘rough’, ‘fine’ and ‘very fine’ renders on flat surfaces, and a mixture of them put together.
– Using the 3 main tools in granite stone masonry (the pitcher, the point and the chisel) and put them to the test on those textures.
For beginners, it will be an amazing way to understand the beauty of granite and its versatility, opening the door to more advanced workshops later on. For more experienced learners, the workshop will push abilities with finish and texture possibilities. Overall, it will be a course that will help participants to understand the specific nature of granite and its versatility, while discovering the endless possibilities that this stone provides.
After the workshop, participants will be able to read a granite building with knowledgeable eyes, understanding how it was created. This course is aimed at Cornish hedgers, landscapers, gardeners, wallers, artists, architects and those wanting to try their hand at the craft.
