About this event
Clare Sykes has researched marine mammals in various places around the world including Iceland, Australia and New Zealand. Following her masters degree in Marine Mammal Science at the University of St Andrews, she worked for an environmental consultancy in Scotland providing advice to minimise the impact of offshore windfarm construction on marine mammals. After returning to Cornwall, Clare coordinated the Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Seaquest Southwest project, a citizen science marine megafauna recording project, and now is a Marine Mammal Senior Specialist at Natural England providing specialist advice on whales, dolphins, porpoises and seals to UK government.
Clare will be talking to us about humpback whales, going into detail about her research on humpback whale song in the South Pacific and bringing it closer to home with exciting news about humpback whale sightings in Cornwall.
