Supper Club with Sophie Velzian

Sophie will talk about her art background and life as a full time artist with live demos.

Sophie Velzian is a contemporary landscape artist who celebrates the enchantment and spell of the famous Helford River. Living and working in this unique Cornish location, she is inspired by its clear waters, the soft light and distinctive trees. Working in oil and cold wax she uses rich and muted colours to conjure up its enduring and enigmatic atmosphere.

Join us on Thursday 26th September when Sophie will cover her art background, from her initial art degree at the Slade School of Art, through to the current day where she is finally living the life she always dreamed as a full time artist painting every day.

Sophie will bring with her examples of her original paintings and talk through the inspiration and techniques behind the artwork. She will also give us a live demo of these techniques, using oil and cold wax and reveal some of the secrets of how she creates the layers and shimmering light and water seen in her work. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions along the way, about her inspiration, the places she loves to paint and the process itself.

Sophie’s work has been exhibited across Cornwall, including Penwith Gallery, St Ives Society of Artists, Coast Colour Canvas and the Poly Falmouth as well as more locally at the Port Navas Hall and her own Open Studio.
